How Does Cefixime 200 mg Tablet Work
Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall-associated protein synthesis, causes destruction of the bacterial cell wall and kills the bacteria.
Only 50% of Cefixime is absorbed by our body.
There is no difference in its effectiveness if taken with food or on an empty stomach.
50% of its absorbed amount is excreted in the urine within 24 hours.
Dosage of Cefixime 200 mg Tablet
In adults, Cefixime is dispense at a dose of 200 mg twice a day.
Cefixime is given by weight in children 6 months to 12 years of age.
Its dosage is 8 mg/kg/day. It can also be given at a rate of 4 mg per kg twice a day.
Cefixime is also completely safe for pregnant women.
Side Effects of Cefixime 200 mg Tablet
Cefixime 200 mg tablet does not cause any side effects in most of the cases. Diarrhea may occur in some patients.

Interactions of Cefixime 200 mg Tablet With Other Drugs
Cefixime is a very safe drug and in most cases does not have serious interactions with other drugs.
But do not take Cefixime together with alcohol and tobacco, otherwise it may cause side effects.
It interacts with certain drugs such as cholera vaccine, desogestrel, dienogest, drospirenone, estradiol, ethinyl, estradiol, ethynodiol, gestodene, levonorgestrel, mestranol, nomegestrol, norethindrone, norgestimate, norgrel, warfarin
Dosage of Cefixime 200 mg Tablet in Patients with Renal Failure
No dosage adjustment is required if the patient’s creatinine clearance is greater than 60.
If the patient’s creatinine clearance is between 21 and 60, a dose of 260 mg/day is recommended
If the patient’s creatinine clearance is less than 20, a dose of 200 mg/day should be used.
